Knaresborough Town moved through to the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Vase competition after a 5-2 victory over Northern Leaguers, Boldon Community Association on Saturday.

Cameron Bedford fired an early shot wide for Knaresborough, but it was the visitors from Wearside who took the lead when Levi Collins broke clear of the defence to finish coolly in the 12th minute.

Four minutes later, a hand-ball awarded Knaresborough a penalty which was dispatched by Ben Parkes for his first goal of the season.

Harry Lee shot over and Tommy Brown had to be alert to save from Alfa Umaro Djalo.

Eddie Cass then slammed a shot against the underside of the crossbar and Nathan Cartman saw his shot saved from the rebound by George Briggs in the Boldon goal.

Cartman then got the ball past the keeper, but a defender cleared before a Cass header was saved before the break.

Within a minute of the restart, Knaresborough went ahead when Cartman lobbed home after his first effort was saved.

Parkes then had a header against the bar and a second over before Collins’ run set up Stephen Wilkinson to level the score in the 54th minute.

Cartman was wide and Luke Collins hit over for Boldon and then Cartman hit over from close range.

Both sides had made substitutions and one of the new players, Jack Emmett, wriggled his way into the area before being tripped. With Parkes now off the field, Cartman took over responsibilities and made it 3-2 in the 77th minute.

Emmett then crossed from the right side for Dom Creamer to head the fourth and, after Jack Carr’s fine effort was tipped over by Briggs, Joe Navier scored from his third attempt following the corner kick form the right side.

Boldon were left frustrated by the three quick strikes which left the home side with a slightly flattering three goal margin, but it was Knaresborough who progressed.
