Knaresborough Town’s 100% record in league matches came to a frustrating end on Saturday with a below par performance at Eccleshill United which ended with a 2-1 defeat.

Brice Ghussein was allowed too much space in the tenth minute as he turned on a through ball to slot home a low shot to put the home side ahead.

Dom Creamer came close to levelling within two minutes when he headed Jake Rose’s corner against the crossbar and soon afterwards, George Thewlis was narrowly wide.

Eccleshill were soon back on the offensive and Alex Laird rose to head home a free kick to double the advantage in the 15th minute.

Eddie Cass headed over from another Rose corner but Tommy Brown then had to be alert to save from Ghussein.

Nathan Cartman was then pushed in the penalty area and Danny Edwards slammed home the spot kick on the half hour mark, but he was narrowly off target with his next chance just before the break when he headed wide from another corner.

Cameron Bedford fired over early in the second half after James Beaston headed a free kick back across goal and, as Knaresborough continued to press, Beaston was wide with a header and fellow-defender, Gregg Anderson had a header saved and a shot over the top.

Bedford hit wide as did Cartman with an overhead effort before Ghussein fired wide for Eccleshill in a rare attack.

Jack Emmett then volleyed against the top of the crossbar as Knaresborough’s good fortune petered away and it was left to Brown to deny Emmanuel Amole’s late effort to retain the single goal margin of defeat.
