Knaresborough Town moved to the head of the league table with a 3-1 victory over Goole on Tuesday evening and thanks to other teams being involved in FA Cup replays and the like.

The first half saw Goole press well and Liam Flanagan lobbed over as they looked to take advantage of considerable early pressure.

As Knaresborough settled, James Beaston had a shot deflected over following a corner and Dom Creamer headed a second corner against the post. The same player then headed over from a similar position before two Cameron Bedford efforts were off target.

Creamer again fired wide, before the best chance of the half fell to Ewan Gregson who pulled his effort wide just before the break.

Half time talk centred around the missed chances, but nerves were calmed three minutes into the second period when Danny Edwards volleyed home Creamer’s pass to open the scoring.

Sam Kilner and Jake Rose came on for Harry Lee and George Thewlis who had picked up early cautions and the former had a shot saved as Knaresborough sought a second.

Beaston headed a Rose free kick wide before Edwards hit is second when the ball broke to him in the penalty area and he fired home in the 62nd minute.

Six minutes later, Ben Gelder headed home a left wing corner to bring Goole right back into the contest and bring back the nervous times for the home contingent.

Again it was Edwards who calmed things down when he converted Creamer’s cross after a great run down the left side in the 80th minute to effectively seal the game.
