Knaresborough Town were disappointed by a late Hallam equaliser on Tuesday evening, the goal costing them two points which would have proved hard-earned.

Knaresborough began the stronger with George Thewlis firing over and both Jack Carr and Cameron Bedford having shots by Callum Yam on his Hallam debut.

Tommy Brown then saved a header from Ollie Fearon and, after Ewan Gregson had his effort saved, Hallam’s Jack Brownell hit a fine shot against the post.

Gregson had a free kick saved by Yam before Jack Carr cleared from his own line a Hallam pressured the home goal late on in the half.

Carr then won a ball in the centre before feeding through for George Thewlis to beat Yam to the pass and roll a pass from the ground to Nathan Cartman who had an open goal to make it 1-0 in the 57th minute.

Gregson had two more efforts saved, but Hallam then pushed really hard for an equaliser with several shots just side of the mark and Brown saving well on two occasions.

After one such chance he threw the ball forward to launch down field, but Calum Ward had been crafty and stayed behind the stopper, timing his run to take the ball and turn it into the empty net in the fourth minute of added time.

A minute later, James Matthews broke through the back line and looked odds on to score the winner, but Brown made amends by tipping the goal-bound shot on to the top of the crossbar and saw the ball cleared before the final whistle blew.
