Knaresborough made it three league matches won in a row without conceding a goal as they triumphed over Maltby Main on Saturday, only the second victory in nine league matches against the South Yorkshire club.

With the wind at their backs in the first half, the home side went ahead in the 20th minute when Ewan Gregson cut in from the right to set up Lewis Stephens to smash the ball high into the net.

Tommy Brown immediately saved from Nana Nyarko’s header, but chances were rare and despite possession advantage, Knaresborough had to wait until just before the interval before Danny Edwards headed over when well-placed for Gregson’s cross.

Brown saved again, this time from Jamal Stewart as the lead was preserved until the break.

Gregson was wide for Knaresborough, but again they had to thank Brown for saving from Nathan Perks and Jake Bradford fired over as the visitors looked to get themselves back in the game.

The crucial second goal came in the 66th minute when Gregson fired home after Dom Creamer’s effort was blocked and from there on the win was comfortable.

Perks did fire over for Maltby, but Gregson added his second, and the third for his side, after excellent work on the right from Jack Emmett to seal a hard-won victory.
